The Sauerland is the largest tourist region in North Rhine-Westphalia, in particular for mountain biking & cycling, water sports and scenic recreation. The forests and picturesque small towns are attractive for hikers, and other outdoor sports. There are more than 30,000 km of tagged hiking trails in Sauerland region maintained by Sauerland hiking association (SGV) - some of them directly in front of the holiday house. The town and Skiliftkarussell of Winterberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis is a major winter sport resort and only 30 minutes away by car. Sights you can easily visit by bike are for example the exhibition mine in the village of Ramsbeck, the highest waterfall in North Rine-Westphalia, called "Plästerlegge", or the retaining lake "Hennesee".
